Microdermabrasion FAQs

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical form of mechanical machine exfoliation that originated in Europe.  It is a powerful, diamond-tipped, electronic vacuum that is pressed across the skin.  The hand-held device exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells and vacuums them away.  It is not recommended for those with rosacea or sensitive skin, or those predisposed to pigmentation problems.

What are the microdermabrasion benefits?

Micodermabrasion will leave your skin looking younger and smoother with your first treatment session as it removes the top layer of the epidermis, revitalizing dull skin.  It can be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage, pigmentation, and acne scarring.  It also helps to eliminate white and blackheads, shrink large pores, and increase skin elasticity.  Stimulating cell metabolism, circulation, and collagen production gives your skin a fresher, firmer, more youthful appearance.

What is the microdermabrasion process?

Your microdermabrasion process will begin with a cleansing and a warm towel press.  It is a painless process that involves the microdermabrasion wand being slowly swept across the skin in a basketweave pattern, avoiding the eyes and lips.  After the residual dead skin is removed with a warm towel, your fresh skin is treated and protected with an anti-oxidant serum and biopeptide creme, followed by a moisturizing eye cream and lip treatment.  The entire treatment will last around 45 minutes for the face only.

Preparation, post-care, & maintenance

Before your treatment session, avoid suntanning and waxing any area being treated.  Also avoid Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or any glycolic acid products.  After your treatment, some redness and itchiness is normal and will disappear within 24 hours.  Keep your skin moisturized to speed up healing, and use an SPF 30+.  Avoid sunbathing, waxing, or exfoliating your skin for 7 days.  After your series of sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart, a maintenance session is recommended every 1-3 months to maintain your results.

Microdermabrasion cost and frequency

A single microdermabrasion session is $150, and most clients will notice a change in the quality of their skin after the first session.  However, for the best microdermabrasion results, a series of 3-5 sessions is recommended for major skin issues such as wrinkles, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.
