THE 5 MOST COMMON METHODS OF HAIR REMOVAL
WAXING
Waxing is the most accepted means of hair removal. It has many benefits. It is ideal for areas of all sizes. It is highly recommended for sensitive and delicate areas. Regrowth is slow and hairs come back softer and less dense. Waxing is easy, convenient and quick. The cost of waxing services is affordable for every client.

SHAVING
Shaving is the most common and widely used hair removal method. Shaving has many disadvantages. Hair regrowth is rapid. Shaving in sensitive areas can cause bumping. This usually happens when the end of the hair follicle is cut off bluntly. The blunt edge has to force itself through a fine pore, which can cause irritation in the form of a bump, or papule. Another shortcoming of shaving is that in some cases the fine pieces of cut hair fall back into the now empty shaft, causing an infection in the form of a pustule. If a hair follicle grows under the skin (pseudofolliculitis), it must be removed with a sharp blade. A sharp blade removes not only hair but also dead skin cells. The daily removal of dead skin cells can break down the skin barrier, causing sensitivity in some people.
TWEEZING
Tweezing should only be used for one or two hairs. Tweezing too many hairs at a time increases the chance of breaking the hair below the skin’s surface, which will cause rapid regrowth and irritation.
CHEMICAL DEPILATION
Chemical depilatories are available in the form of cream, paste or powder. The hair is removed when the depilatory is washed away from the skin. This method of hair removal results in rapid regrowth and the loss of the skin’s barrier. The skin becomes irritated and sensitive making a second application difficult. It makes sense that a chemical that can dissolve hard keratin could be too strong for the average skin. Most common complaints are that chemical depilatories cause chemical burns, tenderness and small cysts.

ELECTROLYSIS
Electrolysis destroys the papilla that supplies nourishment to the hair. An electrolysis practitioner should be certified and well trained. There are three methods of electrolysis: galvanic, short wave and blend. Electrolysis seems to be a good choice for hair removal, but certain factors should be considered. It is a very uncomfortable procedure. It can take one to three years or longer to permanently destroy the hair from large areas. The cost of electrolysis, based on the number of hairs removed, can be quite high as the charge per hair ranges from one to two dollars.
